Preventive Care Services in Circle Pines
Dentistry is designed to help you prevent oral and dental health problems. That’s one of the reasons why the dentists and their staff at Circle Pines Dental encourage patients to maintain a regular schedule of twice yearly dental checkups and exams. These visits are primarily intended to monitor your oral condition, so we can spot problems early and treat quickly so you avoid greater trouble.
At Circle Pines Dental, our preventive services include:
- Cleaning or hygiene
- Regular checkups
- Patient education
- Beath treatment
When you come to our office for a cleaning, one of our skilled dental hygienists will clean each one of your teeth, taking special care to reach areas that are particularly difficult for you to brush on your own. We’ll also remove any visible plaque from the surfaces of your teeth, and floss in between your teeth to stop plaque buildup from occurring in these tight spots.
At least once a year, we’d like to take digital x-rays in order to spot any tooth decay that we may not be able to detect during a visual examination of your teeth. When discovered early, decay is easily remedied with a tooth-colored filling that prevents further decay, which could lead to the need for root canal therapy. We’ll also conduct an oral cancer screening during your exam.
Snoreguards and Nightguards
Did you know that your dentist could help you have a restful night of sleep? Dr. Stentz or Dr. Shaffer can treat snoring or sleep apnea with a custom dental device called a snoreguard or nightguard. Sleep apnea is a medical condition that pauses breathing periodically during the night. The most common form is obstructive sleep apnea. In this case, soft tissue in your throat and your tongue fall back and block your airway while your body is relaxed. A nightguard gently shifts your lower jaw and tongue forward. This slight adjustment prevents tissue obstruction so you can breathe more easily and have a good night’s sleep.
Does anyone in your family play sports? If so, then a mouthguard is essential. This comfortable plastic appliance covers your teeth and absorbs the shock of impact should a blow to the face occur. A mouthguard is designed to prevent injury to your teeth, lips, gums, cheeks and tongue, so you can concentrate on your game. And now there is new research that indicates wearing a mouthguard can even lessen the severity of a concussion should one occur. At Circle Pines Dental, we can fabricate a custom-fitted mouthguard for you or a family member.
